Our Community

St Gabriel’s is a welcoming and inclusive Catholic school where Christ is at the centre of all we do. Guided by our mission to ensure we are always “Learning and loving on our journey with Jesus,” we work closely with our parish, families, and wider community to nurture faith, compassion, and service in the lives of our children. Through prayer, worship, charitable outreach, and community partnerships, we strive to create a strong sense of belonging where every member of our school family is valued and supported.

As part of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, we maintain close links with both St Gabriel’s Church and Corpus Christi Church. Father James Benfield regularly supports the spiritual life of the school through Masses, liturgies, retreat days, and sacramental preparation. Our pupils actively participate in the liturgical life of the Church, leading worship, celebrating feast days, and developing their understanding of the Gospel through meaningful prayer and reflection. Families are warmly invited to join us for school Masses, Stay and Pray sessions, and celebrations throughout the liturgical year, helping to strengthen the relationship between home, school, and parish.

Prayer and worship form an important part of daily life at St Gabriel’s. Children take part in whole-school and class acts of worship, hymn singing, shared prayer, and reflective experiences linked to the liturgical year. We encourage pupils to develop their own relationship with God through a wide variety of prayer styles and opportunities for spiritual growth. Retreat days, Catholic Social Teaching projects, and pupil leadership groups such as Mini Vinnies allow children to live out their faith in practical and meaningful ways.

Serving others is central to our Catholic identity, and our pupils are encouraged to become active, compassionate members of society. Throughout the year, we support a range of local, national, and global charities including Teesside Hospice, the Royal British Legion, Mission Together, and the CAUSE Hamper Campaign. Our children take pride in helping others through fundraising, acts of service, and community events, learning the importance of kindness, dignity, and social responsibility.

We also value the strong partnerships we have built with parents, carers, and community organisations. Initiatives such as Stay and Pray, SVP coffee mornings, Eco Shop projects, Climate Club, and intergenerational visits to local care homes provide opportunities for families and the wider community to come together and share in the life of the school. These experiences help foster a caring and supportive environment where children learn the importance of community, stewardship, and service to others.

At St Gabriel’s, we are proud of the strong faith community we have created together. Through our shared values, prayer life, charitable work, and commitment to serving others, we aim to ensure that every child grows not only academically, but also spiritually, morally, and socially as a valued member of God’s family.
