Starting school, whether in a nursery or reception class, can be a time of mixed emotions for both parents and children. At St Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School, we understand that this process can feel overwhelming, and we hope the following information will help guide you through the steps of choosing a school and applying for a place.

If you wish to apply for a place at St Gabriel’s, you will need to submit your application directly to Redcar and Cleveland Local Authority. However, we warmly invite you and your child to visit our school beforehand to experience our environment and learn more about what we offer.

Should you apply for a place for your child outside of the usual Reception intakeβ€”whether for another year group or at any point during the school year (known as Mid-Year Allocations) you will still need to apply through Redcar and Cleveland Local Authority and our school’s admissions criteria will continue to apply.

How and When to Apply

Parents must apply for a school place for every child moving from nursery to reception, or primary to secondary school. All applications for a school place, including mid-year transfers, must be made on the Local Authority Common Application Form. Please click here to view further information regarding the Local Authority’s Admission Policies.

Applications must be made on the Local Authority Common Application Form. Parents applying to a Catholic Academy should also complete the Supplementary Information Form (SIF) as if the academy is oversubscribed; the information contained within the SIF will allow the Board of Directors to identify which over subscription criteria your application is to be considered against. All forms must be returned by the closing date set by the Local Authority. Failure to provide a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) could affect the category your application is placed in. Please note that it is the responsibility of the parent/carer to complete all forms and supply evidence – reminders will not be sent.

Children with an Educational Health and Care Plan which names our academy in their
plan will be admitted to the academy.

Admissions Policies

Please clickΒ here to view our school admissions policies, located in the policies section of the website. The year of the admissions policy relates to the school year when the children would join the school. This is why more than one school admissions policy is typically visible in the policies section. For further information, please contact school.
